Womens 3000m steeplechase world record broken

The Womens 3000m steeplechase world record was broken by 27 year old Beatrice Chepkoech of Kenya at the IAAF Diamond league meeting in Monaco in July 2018 at Stade Louis II.

Chepkoech had never earlier won a medal in a major athletics meet, surprised all with her world record of 8:44.32 seconds , which was better than the previous record by more than 8 seconds.

Earlier the world record was held by Ruth Jebet of Bahrain who had clocked 8:52.78 at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Paris in 2016

She is the first Kenyan woman to hold the world record for 3000 m steeplechase
